BARCLAY'S PREMIER LEAGUE
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes scored the opening goal in a 3-0 win over Bolton Wanderers. Scholes, who decided to end his career after winning the premier league last season, came out of retirement following Manchester United's injury crisis. The 37 year midfielder, who started the match, tapped in a Wayne Rooney cross to put Manchester United ahead in the 45th (+1) minute. Rooney's assist made up for a missed penalty kick in 22nd minute. Manchester United added two more goals in in the 74th and 83rd minutes through goals from Danny Welbeck and Michael Carrick, respectively. The win put Man U level with Manchester City on points (Both at 48), though City have a game in hand. Scholes' goal made him the second Premier League legend to score after returning to a former club, the first being Thierry Henry. With the help of Scholes, Manchester United hope to win their 13th Premier League title since its inception in 1992.
LA LIGA
Real Madrid, who have been struggling with first half performances as of late, had their second exciting comeback this month (the first being the 3-2 win against Malaga in the Copa Del Rey) in a 2-1 victory over Mallorca. After a lackluster opening by Madrid, Mallorca number 10 Tomer Hemed put the home team in front by scoring a header provided by Gonzalo Castro in the 39th minute. Mourinho, needing more firepower in the front, replaced Lassana Diarra with Gonzalo Higuain for the 2nd half. The substitution paid off, as Higuain put Madrid level by scoring from a Mesut Ozil pass in the 72nd minute. Jose Maria Callejon, who had a rather disappointing first half, became the hero as he scored the winner in the 84th minute. Cristiano Ronaldo, who has been accused of being off form in recent games, picked up his game as well and had cracking attempt on goal which can be seen in the video below. Real Madrid now lead La Liga with 46 points, 8 points ahead of rivals F.C. Barcelona who have a game in hand. Barcelona can restore Real's lead to 5 points by defeating Real Betis tomorrow evening.
