RONALDO TIES ALL-TIME SCORING RECORD! MANCHESTER CITY WIN FA CUP!

Record Breaking Run

World's most expensive footballer Cristiano Ronaldo tied the all-time scoring record in a single season in La Liga on Sunday against Villareal. Ronaldo slotted two similar trademark free kicks (see blow) to secure a victory, as well as secure a place in La Liga history books.  Ronaldo has one game left in the season to set a new record, and many expect him to do so as the game is against last place Almeria. Two league games ago against Sevilla, Ronaldo scored four goals. The next game, against Getafe, Ronaldo scored a hat trick. This past game, Ronaldo scored a brace against Villareal. With these 9 goals, he went from 29 goals (two behind rival Lionel Messi) to 38 goals in the past 3 weeks. His personal goal midseason was to set a new record, and it seems he is very much on track to do so.

Although Ronaldo will finish above Messi in the European golden boot and Pichichi trophy, F.C. Barcelona won La Liga and will be playing Manchester United in the final of the Champions League. For the most successful club in history, finishing 2nd to Barcelona in both the League and Champions League is unacceptable, and Madrid have already signed Turkish international Nuri Sahin to help in their endeavors next season. Sahin, aged 22 years young, has been a regular for the Turkish national team as well as a playmaker for Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund since 2005. Sahin's playing position is Midfielder.

FA CUP

Manchester City won the FA cup for the first time in 35 years against fellow Premier League side Stoke City. Manchester City earned a place in the final after a close game with crosstown rivals Manchester United, and stoke earned their place after crushing Bolton 5-0 in the semi-finals. Yaya Toure broke the deadlock in the 74th minute of the final, which proved to be the decisive moment as the game ended 1-0. The Man of the Match award was given to Manchester City's controversial Mario Balotelli, who was quite pleased with Manchester City's performance. This season marks a turning point for Manchester City as they won both the FA cup, as well as qualified for a Champions League berth, making this Manchester City's most successful season in many years.
