RONALDO SCORES 4; AHEAD OF MESSI IN GOALS! MADRID ANNIHALATES SEVILLA!

After the final Clasico of the season, where Madrid drew Barcelona 1-1 at the Camp Nou, there was nothing left but a very unlikely shot at the La Liga title. Barcelona was leading La Liga in both points, and top scorers, with Messi 2 goals above Ronaldo's 29. Today, however, Madrid crushed a hopeful Sevilla 6-2 at Sevilla's home stadium, all but destroying Sevilla's hopes of a Champions League berth for next season.

The game really began when Sergio Ramos scored Madrid's first goal from a corner kick. Shortly after, playmaker Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 30th goal of the season to pull one back on Lionel Messi. Kaka was the last person to score in the first half, putting Madrid in a healthy position for the start of the second half. At 3-0, Sevilla started pushing up more, which left room for Madrid to counterattack more. In the 61st minute, things looked possible for Sevilla as Negredo scored to make the score 3-1. The next 13 minutes, however, belonged to Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo a goal in the 64th minute, followed by two more in the 70th and 74th minutes. This is the 5th time this season Ronaldo has scored a hat trick or more in La Liga. Sevilla pulled one more back again through Negredo, but the final score was 6-2 to Madrid.

Ronaldo's 4 goal haul puts him 2 ahead of Lionel Messi in the race for the European Golden Shoe, as well as Spain's Pichichi trophy. Today marked the 60th La Liga game for Cristiano Ronaldo, and he has scored an astounding 59 goals, almost averaging a goal a game, a statistic which no player in the world can claim. This season, in all competitions, he has scored 46 goals in 51 games, surpassing his personal record from the 2007-2008 season with Manchester United, in which he scored 42 goals. In La Liga, he has scored 33 goals in 31 games, averaging more than a goal per game.

LA LIGA TOP SCORERS

1. Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) 33 goals
2. Lionel Messi        (Barcelona)     31 goals
3. David Villa           (Barcelona)     18 goals
