RONALDO BREAKS ALL TIME SCORING RECORD WITH 40 GOALS IN 34 GAMES! NOW THE BEST GOALSCORER IN THE HISTORY OF LA LIGA!

Ronaldo's Records

Cristiano Ronaldo broke the all-time scoring record in a single season of La Liga by netting 2 goals in Madrid's 8-1 victory over relegated Almeria. At the start of the game, Ronaldo was tied with Hugo Sanchez and Telmo Zarra at 38 goals for the most goals ever scored in a single season. It only took 4 minutes for Ronaldo to break the deadlock however as he finished from a header by Sergio Ramos. As the game continued, Madrid's dominance never waned, and by the end of the game Adebayor had a hat trick, Benzema and Ronaldo braces, and young Joselu, who had never played a game at the highest level before, had a goal. Along with his brace of goals, Ronaldo had a brace of assists to finish off his season with 53 goals and 15 assists in 54 appearances (in all competitions). Ronaldo finished his La Liga campaign with 40 goals and 10 assists in 34 games, averaging 1.2 goals a game, an unreal statistic in the modern game.

Ronaldo V.S. Messi
With the goals come the Pichichi trophy (awarded to the top goalscorer in La Liga) and the European golden boot (awarded to the top domestic league scorer in all of Europe). These are both awards that Ronaldo's rival Lionel Messi won last year, and both awards that Ronaldo has broken a record for. When Ronaldo won the FIFA World Player of the Year award in 2008, he finished his season with 42 goals in all competitions. Lionel Messi only needed 38 goals to win the award the following year. As of now, Ronaldo has 53 goals (a number which will not change as Madrid's season has ended) and Messi has 52. Should the season finish with these statistics will Ronaldo's 53 goals be enough to take the FIFA Ballon D'or from last year's winner Lionel Messi?
