La Liga
Cristiano Ronaldo brought his league goal tally up to 20 and total tally to 25 this season after notching a hat trick at Sevilla in a 6-2 victory for Real Madrid. Going into the game, Madrid was tied on points with Barcelona at the top of the league, and had to the potential to end the calendar year 3 points ahead of their rivals. Despite their final league game of the calendar year being away to Sevilla, Real did just that. Three goals from Cristiano Ronaldo, and one a piece from Altintop, Callejon, and Di Maria sealed the easy victory for Madrid. Iker Casillas also had a spectacular save to keep Madrid in front which can be seen at the bottom of this post. Real see this victory as very important not only because it puts them on top of the league, but because they were coming off a disappointing loss at the hands of none other than F.C. Barcelona. Barcelona beat Madrid 3-1 in Madrid on the 10th.
Premier League
Chelsea F.C. had a disappointing game against Wigan Athletic today. Chelsea took the lead in the 59th when Sturridge scored, but conceded an unnecessary goal in the 88th minute when Jordi Gomez equalized for Wigan. Peter Cech was the one to blame as he let go of a slow roller and allowed Gomez to pounce on the opportunity. Fernando Torres was benched and did not see a minute of playing time, adding to the speculation that his time at Chelsea is coming to a close.
