UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
Wayne Rooney found his goalscoring form once again against Otelul Galati when he scored two 2nd half penalty kicks. The first penalty was given in the 64th minute, and the 2nd in the 90th. Though the final score was 2-0, the Romanians put up a great effort against the European giants. Manchester United has now collected 5 points from 3 games, less than what would be expected from the 3 time winners of the tournament. Benfica currently tops the group (group C) with 7 points, while Manchester United sit on 2nd with one point more than FC Basel. Otelul Galati, despite great effort, have failed to gain a single point in their first 3 games.
Real Madrid crushed Champions League rivals Lyon 4-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium on Tuesday night. Former Lyon star Karim Benzema started over Gonzalo Higuain despite the latter's fantastic form of late (3 hat tricks in his past 4 matches), and opened the scoring in the 19th minute. The score would remain 1-0 until the 47th minute, when Sami Khedira would notch his first ever goal for Real Madrid since signing with the Spanish giants in 2010. Lyon's goalie, Hugo Lloris, would help the ball into the back of his own net after an attempt from Mesut Ozil, to make the score 3-0. Sergio Ramos would put the icing on the cake in the 81st minute by scoring the 4th and last goal of the game.
