LA LIGA
Real Madrid managed to defeat Getafe 4-2 despite a good performance from the dark blues.
Madrid number 9 Karim Benzema started the scoring in the 14th minute when he put away a pass from Mesut Ozil. Getafe managed to get back in the game in the 39th minute when Venezuelan star Miku put the ball past Iker Casillas in a one on one situation. After the break, Madrid seemed dominant, and it finally paid off when a controversial penalty was handed to Cristiano Ronaldo, who put it away coolly. Madrid then extended their lead to 3-1 in the 69th minute when Cristiano Ronaldo provided a fabulous ball to Karim Benzema, who scored his second of the night. Miku gave hope to Getafe once more in the 73rd minute when he completed his brace, but Gonzalo Higuain's goal for Madrid in the 88th minute would crush any hopes of a comeback.
European Champions F.C. Barcelona could not find their rhythm against Real Sociedad, ending the game in a 2-2 draw. Veteran Xavi and new signing Cesc Fabregas scored for Barcelona in the 10th and 11th minutes, respectively. The response from Sociedad came in the 59th and 60th minutes, when Agirretxe and Griezmann each scored. The scoreline would remain unchanged for the next half hour, and the game would end with the two sides sharing a point.
Real Madrid now tops the lead with 6 points over Barcelona's 4 points.
