International Friendlies
ENGLAND-GHANA
England played Ghana on March 29th at Wembley Stadium in London, and was held to a 1-1 draw by Ghana. Andy Carroll gave England the lead just before halftime with his first international goal. Ghana had much control during the 2nd half, and eventually found the equalizer in the 90th minute through Sunderland star Asamoah Gyan. The goal marked Gyan's 23rd goal for Ghana, and his first international goal since the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
NETHERLANDS-HUNGARY
World Cup Finalists Netherlands played against Hungary in European Cup qualifiers twice this past week winning 4-0 in Hungary, and winning 5-3 in Holland to keep their perfect record in the qualifying campaign.
The exciting match didn't take long to begin, as it only took 12 minutes until the Dutch found the breakthrough through Van Persie. One minute after the second half commenced, the Hungarians had found their rhythm and scored to put the two sides on level terms. Hungary then took the lead when Zoltan Gera scored in the 50th minute, but were back on level terms 10 minutes later when Wesley Sneijder scored the equalizer. "The Dutch Master" Ruud Van Nistelrooy, who has only played a few games since retiring from International Football after euro 2008, put Netherlands ahead in the 72nd minute before Zoltan Gera scored for Hungary again in the 75th minute. Dirk Kuyt then scored 2 goals in the 78th and 81st minute, sealing the victory for the Dutch.
It is highly speculated that Van Nistelrooy will be called up for duty again, and will take part in the 2012 European Championship.
GERMANY-AUSTRALIA
Heavily favored Germany was upset by Australia at the Borussia-Park stadium in Germany on Tuesday. Mario Gomez scored for Germany in the 26th minute, giving his side the 1-0 lead at halftime. In the second half, however, Australia scored once from open play and once from a penalty in the 61st and 64th minutes, respectively, and finished the match with a 2-1 win against the world number 3 team.
