ROONEY SHINES- REAL MADRID PUSHES CLOSER TO BARCELONA

Sporting Gijon ended Barcelona's 15 game winning streak with a 1-1 draw in Gijon on Saturday. Barcelona was losing 1-0 until the closing minutes, when David Villa struck the equalizer. Real Madrid played Espanyol in Sunday with 10 men for most of the game, as Iker Casillas was red carded in the 2nd minute of the game. Brazilian defender Marcelo struck his first goal of the season, and ended a goal drought. Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi still sit at the top of the table for Goals, and Real Madrid is only 5 points behind Barcelona.

In England, the Manchester derby not only met expectations, but exceeded them. The fantastic game had a tremendous ending as Manchester United star Wayne Rooney struck the winner in the 80th minute with an extraordinary bicycle kick. The goal was dubbed "Goal of the Century" immediately, and any anger that fans may have shown Rooney the past few months was squelched. The game ended 2-1 for Manchester United, with Nani and Rooney scoring for the Red Devils, and Edin Dzeko scoring for Manchester City. Elsewhere in the Premier League, Van Persie secured a win for Arsenal who are still in the title race, and Chelsea disappointingly drew their game against Fulham. Fernando Torres is finding it difficult to gel with Chelsea quickly, as the striker is yet to score his first goal for them.
