PREMIER LEAGUE, LA LIGA RESULTS

Fernando Torres, who had just transferred from Liverpool to Chelsea F.C, finished his debut against Liverpool thinking he may have made a mistake. Torres cited Liverpool's lack of ambition and trophies as a reason he left for Chelsea, but Liverpool managed to overpower Chelsea, beating them 1-0 thanks to a Meireles goal. It certainly looks as though Liverpool will have the last laugh in the Fernando Torres transfer fiasco.

In La Liga, Cristiano Ronaldo celebrated his 26th birthday by scoring two goals for Real Madrid against Real Sociedad. Ronaldo could have had three goals, but did not manage to finish any other chances presented to him. The final score was 4-1, with Kaka and Adebayor providing the other two goals for Madrid, while Real Madrid defender Arbeloa scored an own goal to give the visitors a glimmer of hope. Striker Karim Benzema who has only managed to score 2 goals in 20 league appearances this season seems to have been replaced by new signing Emmanuel Adebayor, who has scored 2 goals in his first 3 games for Madrid.

Ronaldo and Messi are now neck and neck in the goal competition, as Ronaldo has 25 goals and Messi has 24.
